I want to tell you something I don't say lightly: I have been at rock bottom. Not the kind you read about in motivational quotes — the real kind. The kind where the walls close in and you can't see a way out.
After 15 years working in a professional healthcare career, I was fired. Just like that. A decade and a half of showing up, giving everything, building a life — gone in an instant.
The Domino Effect
What I didn't expect was what came next. One job loss became a domino effect of frustration I couldn't stop. Rejection letters piled up. Bills followed. And then came the moment that broke me: I had to hand my car back to the finance company to be auctioned.
I had little left to give. I got on the public bus to go home — no car, no job, no plan. I had hit rock bottom.
The Questions That Changed Everything
When I walked through the door, my two daughters — aged 9 and 11 — were there. They looked at me. Kids always know.
And then they asked me something I will never forget:
"Mum, do you have to work for other people? Why do grown-ups work for other people?"
I stopped. Everything stopped.
I realised in that moment that my children had never seen what it looked like to work for yourself. To back yourself. To build something that was truly yours. They only knew one way — and I had been living it for 15 years.
I looked at them and said: No. You don't have to.
And then I made a promise. To them. To myself. This time, I would work for me.
Dream Chaser Was Born
That bus ride home — that conversation with my daughters — that was the beginning of Dream Chaser.
I started the brand a few months later. Not because I had it all figured out. Not because I had money or a safety net. But because I refused to let rock bottom be the end of my story.
Every hoodie, every tee, every print we create carries that energy. The belief that you can shift direction. That you can take ownership. That your setback is not your full stop — it's your turning point.
Why I'm Sharing This
I share this story because I want to be more than a brand to you. I want to be a role model — living proof that you can bounce back from losing everything.
If you're going through something right now — a job loss, a rejection, a moment where it feels like the walls are closing in — I want you to know: rock bottom is not the end. It can be the beginning.
You are a Dream Chaser. And your story isn't over.
